CS-05: ELEMENTS OF SYSTEM ANALYSIS & DESIGN  DEC 1997

NOTE : There are 6 question no.6 is compulsory and carries 25 marks. From the remaining questions, you may attempt any three. Each of these questions carries 15 marks.
 

1.   Write brief notes on any five of the following :

Distinguish between transaction processing systems, management information system decision support systems and office automation systems.  Illustrate their characteristics with focus on a large financial enterprise such as a Bank.

Enumerate the factors that are important to the quality of a software system. Illustrate their relative significance in a qualitative manner with some examples.

State 3 important reasons why computer output are required.  Give an example of a situation where the output of one computer is used as am input for another, without any human intervention or decision process.  Rank 5 considerations involved in output design in decreasing order of importance from the point of view of the user.

What hardware and software would be required by an Organisation contemplating use of multi-media in its work ?  What are the ways in which a business organisation could benefit by installing a multi-media machine in its premises ?  What would be the differences between equipment required for development and that appropriate for delivery of multi-media ?

6.  

What are the attributes that a good system analyst must have ?  Illustrate two possible situations where a computer professional may face an ethical dilemma.  From where can he obtain guidance on the appropriate stand that he should take when confronted with such a problem
